Basic scientific achievements

- Velocity vectors of modern horizontal crustal movements in Azerbaijan and their regularities determined on the basis of GPS satellite geodesy method;

- The deformation rates of the Earth`s crust, the directions of the compression and extension axes calculated based on the GPS velocity data;

- Compression and extension zones of Azerbaijan defined based on the GPS velocitydata;

- It is revealed that, generally the epicenters of strong earthquakes are on the border areas of compression and extension zones.
